Summary of Multicast VLAN Replication Configuration Tasks

Multicast VLAN replication can be configured in different methods depending on the application scenario. Table 1 lists multicast VLAN replication configuration tasks.

Task Description

Configuring 1-to-N Multicast Replication Based on User VLANs

When user VLAN-based 1-to-N multicast VLAN replication is configured on a switch, the upstream device only needs to send one copy of multicast data to the switch. The switch then replicates multicast data and sends the data to multiple user VLANs. This saves bandwidth between the upstream device and the switch.

Configuring N-to-N Multicast VLAN Replication Based on User VLANs

N-to-N multicast VLAN replication is a supplement to the traditional 1-to-N multicast VLAN replication mode. This mode enables you to bind a user VLAN to multiple multicast VLANs by configuring a static flow in the multicast VLANs. If user VLANs connected to the switch require multicast data from multiple ISPs, configure N-to-N multicast VLAN replication on the switch.

Configuring Interface-based Multicast VLAN Replication

By binding user VLANs to a multicast VLAN on a user-side interface, you can implement multicast service isolation on the interface while allowing multicast data replication to user VLANs. For example, when multiple ISPs provide multicast services on a network, you can configure this function to ensure that data of an ISP is forwarded only to the users who have subscribed to the services of the ISP.
